Imphal, January 30 2019: The Income Tax Department, North East Region organised a publicity campaign on income tax obligations of people in the region on January 26 .

A press release issued by Additional Commissioner of Income Tax Range Imphal stated that the campaign also highlights various new provisions prohibiting certain types of transactions, particularly cash transactions, which attracts stiff penalties.

As the North East States have low banking coverage, people may inadvertently enter into the prohibited transactions and become exposed to penal provisions, it informed.

It stated that the campaign will help the people understand and avoid such provisions.
