3 assaulted in pre-poll violence

Imphal, July 17 2012: Related to the forthcoming Panchayat polls, three supporters of a candidate have been assaulted by supporters of a rival candidate at Tentha Marongbandh in Thoubal district at about 6.30 pm yesterday.

9-Tentha Zilla Parishad Member candidate Khangenbam Priyojit and his supporters were going on a house campaign last night.

But they were confronted by rival candidate Laishram Ibomcha and his supporters on their way back.

Supporters of Ibomcha reportedly thrashed three supporters of Priyojit including a woman.

Denouncing the attack, a protest demonstration was staged today at Tentha Multiplex under the aegis of the All Tentha Meira Paibi Lup.
