Asian Waterbird Census launched at major wetlands in Thoubal

Thoubal, January 23 2026: As part of the annual Asian Waterbird Census, the Department of Forest, Govemment of Manipur, launched the census operation in Thoubal district on Thursday at key wetland sites including Waithou Pat, Pumlen Pat, Kharung Pat and Ikop Pat.

The census, which has been conducted across the State, is aimed at monitoring waterbird populations and accessing the ecological health of wetlands.

The exercise was carried out by a joint team of Thoubal Forest personnel and members of Wildlife Explorer Manipur.

During the operation, Divisional Forest Officer, Thoubal Forest Division, Dr L Jeeceelee, along with Range Officer Dineshchandra Salam of Thoubal Forest Range, Range Officer Huidrom Sundar of Kakching Forest Range, and beat officers, conducted inspections and surveys at the identified lakes.
