Hit and run case : Remand for three

All the three accused of the Thongju Boroimakhong hit and run case, in which the former acting Chairman of the Pambei-led UNLF sustained injuries while his wife was killed, have been remanded in police custody.
The three accused identified as Davidson Thokchom (23) s/o Senapati of Bashi-khong near Meira Club, Rohit Oinam (23) s/o Surjit of Singjamei Chingamakha Phuramakhong and Robert-son Naorem (24) s/o Rajendro of Singjamei Makha Liwa Lambi were arrested yesterday in connection with the case.
A team of Singjamei police station produced the accused before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West today afternoon along with a prayer for police custody remand.
An APP of the State submitted that examination of the CCTV footage showed a Honda Activa dashed by an unknown four-wheeler from the back side.
As a result, both the driver and the pillion rider of the Honda Activa were thrown away.
The unknown four-wheeler drove over Moirangthem (ongbi) Jibanlata with the front left wheel and stopped.
After stopping for some 4/5 seconds while the victim was lying between the front wheel and rear wheel, the driver of the four-wheeler, without caring to pull off the body of the victim from under the car, again drove over the body of the victim with the rear left wheel and sped away toward the inter-village road of Boroi Makhong, the APP said.
On preliminary interrogation, the accused persons admitted to have committed the crime.
Moreover, the driver of the four-wheeler could not produce his driving licence, the APP submitted.
The Court, after hearing the submission of the APP and on perusal of the case record, remanded the accused persons in police custody till January 27 .
