Imphal, November 07 2026: Tension gripped a place in Bishnupur district today after an irate mob stormed the boarding facility of an institute following the discovery of a student hanging under suspicious circumstances.

A senior police officer told The Sangai Express that the mob set fire to furniture and some other pro- perties of the boarding place.

The mob was subsequently dispersed by firing tear gas shells and taking other crowd-control measures.

The police officer also dismissed a social media post claiming that the boarding facility had been torched, clarifying that only furniture and some other items were burnt.

Tension continues to prevail in the area, with security measures tightened to prevent any further untoward incidents.

The deceased, a 15-year-old juvenile, was found hanging from a tree near Kangbei Maril River, close to Oinam Bazar under Nambol police station, this evening.

He was a student of a higher secondary school and staying at a boarding facility.

The family of the deceased questioned how a student staying at the boarding facility could be found hanging from a tree away from the premises.

Suspecting foul play, the family urged the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the cir- cumstances leading to the death and establish the facts behind the incident.
