Imphal, June 06 2024:
After a long hiatus, the Imagi Meira has urged the Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly and the Chairman of the Privilege and Ethics Committee to take actions against the 10 Kuki MLAs who are demanding bifur-cation of Manipur.
Speaking to the media at Manipur Press Club, convenor of Imagi Meira Th Sujata said that the Union Home Minister had some weeks back announced to resolve the issue in Manipur on war footing after the 18th Lok Sabha elections ended but nothing is seen on the ground as of yet.
She also said that the Manipur Government still doesn't work in tandem with the people for the wellbeing of the masses.
It is not known what the Centre will do or announce pertaining to the issue in Manipur, she said and claimed that the Central Government may even give separate administration to the Kuki people.
She further stated that Centre too doesn't put in any sincere effort to end the conflict in Manipur which crossed the one year mark on May 3, 2024 .
Saying that the Government not taking any action against the Kuki MLAs is upsetting, Sujata continued that the Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly and the Chairman of Privilege and Ethics Committee should not remain silent over the matter.
The Kuki MLAs still haven't withdrawn their demand to disintegrate Manipur, Sujata said and asked what is holding the State Assembly back from taking action against them (the Kuki MLAs) .
It's been over an year that Meiteis cannot move beyond the central valley of Manipur on land routes and it appears that separate administration has already been given to the Kukis, she said and urged the Governor and the Chief Minister to resolve the issue.
What have the 50 MLAs been doing since the 10 Kuki MLAs raised the demand to disintegrate Manipur, she asked.
People are extremely tired, she further said while urging the Government to redress the grievances of the people.
She also appealed to the Centre and the State Government to execute the charter of demands which they and the women's wing of Delhi Meetei Coordinating Committee (DMCC) placed before Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Governor Anusuiya Uikey and Chief Minister N Biren Singh through a memorandum.
In the memorandum, Imagi Meira and DMCC (women's wing) urged the Government not to take the side of Kukis, but take actions against those who have been scheming to disintegrate Manipur, let a National investigation agency investigate the cases of Kuki militants attacking State forces and BSF personnel, restore normalcy in the State, implement NRC and destroy poppy plantations and safeguard the forest areas of the State.
Sujata continued that they and DMCC held a joint press conference at Delhi on May 28 last and urged the Central Government not to take side while resolving the issue.
She said that they also highlighted the resentment of the people against the Central forces for not controlling the Kuki militants and their associates.
Leaders of DMCC (women's wing) also attended the press briefing.
