A massive rally was taken out today at Sora, Kakching district, against the Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025, which was recently passed in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha after heated debates.
Thousands of people took part in the rally organised by Anjuman Nasrul Islam (Ulama-e-Association), Sora and All Sora Clubs Co-ordinating Committee (ASCCOC) .
Placards with inscription "Protect Muslim Right", "Reject Waqf Bill," "Owner of Waqf is Allah", "Custodian of Waqf is Muslim Community" and "WAQF Bill is Unacceptable" were held by the protesters.
Speaking to the media on the sideline, ASCCOC president ML Zulfiqar Alam Sheikh said that Waqf refers to properties donated by Muslims for religious and charitable purposes.
Saying that the Bill undermines the functioning of Waqf and is against the interests of the Muslim community, he urged the Government to withdraw the Bill.
Ex Up-Adhyaksha Md Nazimuddin said that more protests will be staged until the Act is withdrawn.
Pangal Students' Organisation (PSO), in a statement, also urged the Government to withdraw the Bill.
PSO stated that the Govt's amendment of the Bill with a hidden agenda is unacceptable.
