Gold, cash looted

Unidentified armed men looted Rs 72 lakh worth of gold and Rs 8.5 lakh in cash from a house at Thoubal Achouba Keithel Makha today.
The incident happened early in the morning at around 6.30 and Thoubal police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
The man whose house was looted has been identified as Wangkhem Ranjit, who owns a jewellery shop at Thoubal Keithel.
While how many men were involved is not known, four men came in three four wheeler vehicles-a Thar Jeep, one Creta Car and a Bolero and approached the house in the morning.
The four men told Wangkhem Ranjit they wanted to sell some gold.
After telling them he doesn't have the complete money to buy the gold, Ranjit tried to call his brother-in-law on the phone to ask for money.
When he was trying to call, the men snatched the mobile phone and pointed a gun at him.
They then asked where he keeps his gun in the house.
The four men then locked him inside a room and interrogated his wife in the kitchen.
Afterwards, they dismantled the CCTV camera and started searching the house.
They looted around Rs 8.5 lakh cash and gold worth Rs 72 lakh.
They also looted a license gun-a single barrel gun and two mobile handsets.
Meanwhile, denouncing the incident, Thoubal Achouba Pakhangkhong Leirak Meira Paibis staged a sit-in protest at Thoubal Keithel Makha Bamol Leirak and appealed to the police to arrest the culprits and punish them according to law.
