Imphal, October 01 2025:
MAHUD Director Ng Uttam has appealed to all sections of people not to begrudge or undermine the Government's initiative to reduce the use of plastic products in the State.
As a part of Nation First @75 Campaign, a one-day interaction programme of stakeholders on waste management was held today at Classic Grande, Chingmeirong under the aegis of Manipur Pollution Control Board (MPCB) and the Centre for Research on Environmental Development (CRED) .
Speaking at the interaction programme, MAHUD Director Ng Uttam said that the drive against plastics is not guided by any selfish interest but by the common concern for humanity and environment.
Although plastic products are cheap and convenient, its management costs more than 10 times its price, he said.
Moreover, plastic products have been identified as one major agent of environmental pollution and a serious challenge to human health.
He then called upon all sections of people to cut down use of plastic products as much as possible.
Even though tourism has been identified as a principal sector with immense potential for the State's economic growth, people are seen littering waste materials at different tourism sites.
Such unhealthy practice is a serious setback to all the efforts to promote tourism in the State, Uttam said.
He then appealed to all the people to stop disposing of solid wastes at improper places.
Environment and Climate Change Director Dr T Brajakumar and MPCB Member Secretary Dr W Roshan were also present at the interaction programme where three resource persons spoke on different aspects of waste management.
