Tributes paid to revolutionary leader on 129th birth anniversary

The 129th birth anniversary of revolutionary leader Hijam Irabot was commemorated in different parts of the State with fitting tributes.
On the occasion, Neinasang Club honoured the Lamyanba Hijam Irabot at their Sagolband Tera Loukrakpam Leikai office.
Highlights of the event include a demonstration of Thang-Ta, lighting of ceremonial candles and offering of floral tributes.
Meira paibis of the area also presented songs written by the social activist on the solemn occasion.
Further, youths presented poems, songs etc at the event.
Meanwhile, Neinasang Club handed over simple gifts such as stationery items (books and pens) to the participating youths and shawls to the meira paibis.
Separately, Eastern Popular Club Khurai Thoidingjam Leikai and Yaipha Lamjing Nupi Lup jointly observed the 129th birth anniversary of Hijam Irabot at Shree Shree Gourgobind Girls' College at Khurai Sajor Leikai.
The event was graced by Yambem Lalbabu, founder, Eastern Popular Club and retd MFS; Ahanthem Manaoton, founder, Eastern Popular Club (retd Headmaster); Dr Hijam Anita Devi, vice-principal, Shree Shree Gourgobind Girls' College at Khurai Sajor Leikai; Khumujam Jina Devi, secretary, Yaipha Lamjing Nupi Club and Salam Birendra Singh, president, Eastern Popular Club as the chief guest, guests of honour and functional president respectively.
Offering of floral tributes to the revolutionary leader, recounting his major contributions and a showcase of talent by the students marked today's commemorative event.
Further, Dalit Sahitya Academy, Manipur also commemorated the 129th birth anniversary of Jananeta Hijam Irabot at the Loktak Hall of Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul.
The gathering paid floral offerings to the portrait of the communist leader.
As part of the event, awards were handed over to Dalit workers.
Notable dignitaries present at the event include Dr K Sobita Devi, former Director, Art and Culture; Dr Yumnam Mahendrakumar, National secretary, Bharatiya Dalit Sahitya Academy; Haobam Chitra Devi, former Assistant Director, Art and Culture; Khwairakpam Iboyaima, member, Bar Council of Manipur and Kongbrailatpam Gangarani Devi, former Principal, N Tomchou Higher Secondary School as the presidium members.
The gathering also observed a moment of silence as a mark of honour to the brave sons and daughters of Manipur.
Under the aegis of All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO), the Imphal East District United Club's Organisation (IEDUCO) planted 700 tree saplings at Thangjam Manorama memorial site in Bamon Kampu in observance of the 129th birth anniversary of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot.
Wrapping up their month-long observation dedicated to the revolutionary leader today, a press release informed that IEDUCO has planted a total of 1500 tree saplings across more than 10 spots in Imphal East throughout "Irabot month" .
Today's tree plantation drive was graced by Phulindro Konsam, chairman, Thangjam Manorama Memorial Site Development Committee; vice chairman Joy Chingakham, treasurer AK Inaobi; Lanin Hirom, convenor, All Kongba Road United Clubs Organisation, office secretary Mutum Sanjoy; S Surjit, president, Southeast United Clubs' Organisation, general secretary S Jatra, ex-member Laikhuram Santikumar Singh; Thangjam Hemanta Meitei, chairperson, Bamon Kampu GP; IEDUCO president Kh Orendro, general secretary Ch Okendro among others.
Lastly, in commemoration of the 129th birth anniversary of Hijam Irabot, North Eastern Youth Development Organisation (NEYDO), Kongpal Porompat Kshetri Leikai conducted a cleanliness drive (social service programme).
The programme was carried out in areas under the jurisdiction of NEYDO.
In the evening, tributes were paid to the visionary leader by locals of the area.
