Imphal, January 24 2015 :
The Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) has criticised the State Govt for its alleged delay in intervening in the ongoing standoff between the Catholic Society and the JSCC over the former's decision to conduct admission test for selection of students seeking admission to Class I at four Missionary schools it runs.
The Joint Students Coordination Committee (JSCC) had closed the gates of four Mission schools - St Joseph's, Catholic School, Canchipur, Little Flowers and Nirmalabas schools since Jan 22 protesting the authority's decision to conduct admission test for selection of students to Class I .
The JSCC has been demanding that selection of students seeking admission to the schools be done through draw of lots as done in the previous years.
The silence of the Education Minister over the issue even after being pressed by the JSCC shows his irresponsibility, a statement issued by Thiyam Sushilkumar Luwang, joint secretary-I of MSF said.
They forget that the Government is the authority and they are taken hold of by the endowments of the Catholic Society, it charged.
The Minister should realise that creating unwarranted hassle and annoyance to parents at the times of admission which can be solved by formulating a long term RR over the matter by convening joint meeting of the two partiesis not a sign of the prevalence of quality education system, it said.
Pointing out that the present problem is not between the JSCC and Catholic Society, the statement asserted that the problem rather arises due to the failure of the Govt to play its role and responsibility over the issue.
The stand of the JSCC is in compliance to Sec 13 (2) (B) of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, it added.
