Imphal, August 21 2025:
The Joint Action Committee formed against the death of Hijam (ongbi) Ibemcha at RIMS operation theatre on August 19 has called a bandh on NH-2 from this evening.
Apart from shutting all the shops and markets of Sekmai Bazar, a large number of people blocked movement of vehicles on NH-2 in Sekmai area.
The protesters also shouted several slogans demanding befitting punishment for all the guilty or negligent doctors.
JAC convenor Ahongshangbam Ashok Kumar said that they submitted a charter of demands to the RIMS authority yesterday but there was no positive response till noon today.
In the absence of any positive response from the RIMS authority, the JAC, as announced yesterday, imposed a bandh on NH-2 with effect from this afternoon.
If the RIMS authority and the authorities concerned fail to award befitting punishment to the erring doctors and the JAC's demands are not addressed at the earliest, the JAC would be constrained to launch several modes of intense agitation, Ashok Kumar said.
He added that medical and essential services would be exempted from the purview of the ongoing bandh.
