Imphal, April 17 2025:
The Joint Action Committee formed in connection with the custodial death of Khoisnam Sanajaoba (Ibungo) has demanded dismissal of the police commandos who brought Sanajaoba to JNIMS Hospital.
A protest demonstration was staged today at Lamlong Keithel under the aegis of the JAC against the custodial death of Sanajaoba (Ibungo) .
JAC convenor Laishram Kumari said that out of five village volunteers arrested by police commandos, four were released on bail while Sanajaoba (Ibungo) s/o Khoisnam Gandhi and Khoisnam ongbi Sunita of Khurai Ningthoubung Leikai was sent to Sajiwa Jail.
On April 13, Sunita was informed by police that Sanajaoba had become sick and they were going to take him to JNIMS Hospital.
When Sunita reached the hospital at around 12.10 pm of the same day, her 27 year old son was found dead, Kumari said.
When Sunita checked the hospital records, she found that a casualty ticket was obtained at 11.06 am.
The doctors' report said that no blood pressure or pulse rate could be detected when they checked on Sanajaoba at 11.15 am.
The doctors reported that Sanajaoba was dead.
Whereas the corpse of Sanajaoba is still lying at JNIMS morgue after completion of post mortem, the Government has failed to meet the JAC's demand to establish the facts and circumstances leading to the death of Sanajaoba within 48 hours, the JAC convenor said.
She said that the JAC was staging the protest demonstration in association with local clubs, Meira Paibis and women vendors of Lamlong Keithel demanding delivery of justice to the bereaved family, registration of a murder case in connection with the custodial death of Sanajaoba (Ibungo) and handing over of the same case to CBI, awarding befitting punishment to all those responsible for the custodial death and making the post mortem report and video recording of the post mortem accessible to the JAC and the public.
The JAC convenor maintained that they would continue with different modes of agitation until all their demands are fulfilled.
Khoisnam Sanajaoba is survived by his wife and a three year old son.
Apart from serving as a village volunteer, Sanajaoba used to work at a car wash.
After the protest demonstration, the JAC submitted a memorandum to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and sought justice.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club, JAC co-convenor Yumkhaibam Nungshitombi said that the Government should register an FIR against all the police personnel responsible for the death of Sanajaoba and adequate compensation must be given to the bereaved family.
These demands have been placed before the Governor through the memorandum and all of them must be fulfilled within five days, she said.
The memorandum also urged the Governor to see that the post mortem report of Sanajaoba is handed over to the JAC in 'raw format' .
