Huge quantities of seized liquor destroyed at Bishnupur, Thoubal

Bishnupur/Thoubal, May 12 2024:
Huge quantities of seized liquor worth more than Rs 10 lakh were destroyed and burnt inside the premises of the Excise Office complex, Yairipok in Thoubal district today.
The destroyed Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and Distilled Indigenous Country (DIC) liquor were seized by the Excise Department officials from different areas of Kakching and Thoubal districts.
Speaking to media in connection with today's initiative, Deputy Superintendent Excise, Kh Remmei informed that the burnt liquors were seized by the Excise stations of Pallel, Kakching, Thoubal, Lilong and Yairipok from June 1, 2023 till April 30, 2024 .
The burnt liquors are worth a total of Rs 10,44,907 which include IMFL worth around Rs 45,507 (75.85 litres); beer worth around Rs 13, 350 (44.50 litres) and DIC liquor worth around Rs 9 lakh, he said.
He went on to state that the initiative to destroy and burn the seized liquors which were kept at Yairipok Excise station was taken up as per the directives of an order issued by Commissioner of Excise Manipur, Hungyo Worshang on May 9, 2024 due to inconveniences faced in storing the liquors.
The burning of liquors were carried out in the presence of SP Excise Thingbaijam Brucelee; District Nodal Officer Excise Yairipok, OC Pangambam Ranjit; other State and district officials; Yairipok Municipal Council former councillors Akoijam Romesh, Gurumayum Ingocha Sharma and former chairperson Keisham Rupachandra among others.

In a separate incident, DIC liquor and IMFL worth around Rs 4 lakh were burnt today at the premises of Bishnupur Excise Office campus in the presence of womenfolk of the area and Excise Department staff.
Speaking to media, Nodal Officer Bishnupur Excise and OC Oinam Surjit informed that the burnt liquors were confiscated ahead of 18th Lok Sabha Election 2024 by the Excise offices of Nambol, Bishnupur, Moirang and District Police from January 1 till April 30 this year under under the provisions of Manipur Liquor prohibition Act 1991 .
Thokchom Maniraja, OC Nambol Excise and Moirangthem Kanhai OC Moirang Excise were also present today.
