The Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West has disposed of a case against Naorem Mohen, general secretary (organisation) of the Manipur Patriotic Party.
The case was registered in connection with a press release allegedly promoting enmity between different groups, which was circulated on social media.
The final report of the case registered against Naorem Mohen (48), s/o Iboton of Iroisemba Maning Leikai was submitted before the Court after completion of the investigation by the IO of Imphal police station.
According to the final report, the press release issued during the midst of the crisis in Manipur that started on May 3, 2023 warned certain communities from the Kuki-Zo area to cease their support for Kuki-Zo volunteers, threatening severe consequences if they failed to comply.
After a thorough investigation, the police said that there was insufficient evidence to frame charges against Naorem Mohen and added that some individuals may have circulated the viral post to fuel violence in Manipur.
The case had been pending for over a year and a half without any progress, and no solid clues were found to frame charges against Naorem Mohen, the IO said and prayed for the case to be disposed of due to lack of evidence.
It is reported that the complainant had no objections to the plea to dispose of the case.
The Court, after the hearing, disposed of the case and discharged Naorem Mohen accordingly.
