Imphal, June 06 2024:
Farmers will not face any shortage of Urea for Kharif crops this season, said Agriculture Minister Th Biswajit today.
He said this while talking to reporters about a tender that has been floated to select transporters to ferry Urea from Jiribam to Imphal.
While an earlier invitation for a similar tender had failed to attract any transporters, a fresh tender was floated before the Lok Sabha elections by the Agriculture Department.
After the fresh tender was put on hold by the Election Commission due to election model code of conduct, the process has now resumed, he said.
The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers has allocated 6500 MT (1.45 lakh bags) of fertilizers for the month of June for Manipur.
These will be transported from Jiribam to Imphal by dealers registered under the department and new transporters would be selected through the tender, he added.
Biswajit said steps are being taken up to provide fertilizers from the department's available stock to farmers to meet current needs.
He also urged the farmers to get registered on the Fertilizer Management System that has already been launched by the Government to avail fertilizers.
