Imphal, April 06 2025:
The Zeliangrong United Committee (ZUCM) has categorically stated that immigrant Kukis cannot claim ownership of land in Manipur.
Speaking to media persons at their Dewlahland office today ZUCM president Maibon Phaomei said that ZUCM condemned in the strongest terms the abduction and physical assault on the chief and the chairman of Konsaram (Konsakhul) village by Kukis.
It is a matter of grave concern that the Kukis who came to Manipur in the much later phase of the State's history have been claiming large parts of Konsaram village area from the indigenous Liangmai community, he said.
Taking serious note of the frequent disturbances and obstructions made by Kukis to tilling of land for agricultural purpose and construction of houses by Liangmai villagers on their ancestral land, Maibon Phaomei demanded the Kukis to put an end to all such disturbances immediately.
Kukis must stop claiming the land of Konsaram by issuing fabricated press statements every now and then.
In this age, lies can never be presented as truth, he asserted.
It is common knowledge that Kukis came and settled in the surrounding areas of Konsakhul village not long ago.
A thorough investigation by ZUCM into the land dispute between Konsaram Liangmai village and Haraothel Kuki village revealed that Konsaram village is on the right side.
Since a very long time back, the indigenous tribe Liangmais have been settling at Konsaram, Kukis came much later.
Repeated encroachment into the Konsaram area by armed Kukis and intimidation of the numerically smaller Liangmai villagers will only escalate the existing tension and create unwanted situations, the ZUCM president warned.
Threats and violence unleashed by armed Kukis upon the Konsaram villagers will only give birth to a fresh crisis in Manipur, he added.
If the Kukis continue to harass, intimidate and commit acts of violence in Konsaram village, a very ugly situation may erupt between the Kukis and the indigenous communities of Manipur, Maibon Phaomei said.
ZUCM will never accept the claim of land ownership made by Kukis after encroaching into and settling in different parts of the hill areas of Manipur, he asserted.
He said that history is not something which can be fabricated at one's whim and fancy.
The people of Manipur as well as the Kukis themselves know when and how they came to Manipur, he said.
The ZUCM president also urged the Government to book and award exemplary punishment to all those Kuki terrorists involved in the abduction and physical assault on the Konsaram village chief and the chairman.
He further urged the Government to check whether the armed Kukis who attacked Konsaram village belong to Kuki militant groups under SoO agreement.
