Imphal, October 03 2024:
The much anticipated National executive committee meeting of National People's Party (NPP) scheduled on October 5 at New Delhi has been deferred indefinitely.
Earlier it was reported that the proposed executive committee meeting which has now been deferred would take a final decision on whether NPP would continue to support the BJP Government in Manipur or withdraw its support.
NPP National president Conrad K Sangma issued a notification on October 2 informing that the party's National executive committee scheduled on October 5 at New Delhi has been deferred until further notice.
But Conrad Sangma did not give any reason for deferring the scheduled meeting.
However, according to information received by The Sangai Express, there is a huge rift among the NPP legislators and the party's executive members in Manipur.
Most of the NPP executive members and office bearers, considering the growing resentment and indignation of the people against the BJP Government following its failure to bring a solution to the protracted violent crisis, want to withdraw the party's support to the BJP Government.
On the other hand, five out of the seven NPP MLAs of Manipur wish to keep supporting the BJP Government.
It is suspected that the NPP National president put off the scheduled meeting as he does not want to take any decision in haste in the wake of strong pressures coming from both the groups.
Some well known NPP leaders of Manipur told The Sangai Express that many prospective candidates who are currently holding key posts of the party and lost the last Assembly elections by very small margins may leave the party if the party's leadership decides to keep on supporting the BJP Government in line with the desire of the majority incumbent NPP MLAs.
At the same time, the NPP National president fears that some of the party's MLAs may desert the party if he takes a decision to pull out the party's support from the Government against their wish.
Notably, NPP is a partner of both the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) .
