Imphal, May 03 2025:
Former rebel leader RK Meghen has said the ongoing Manipur crisis is more perilous than the historic Chahi Taret Khuntakpa, attributing it to an attempt to eradicate indigenous people.
He made the statement at a programme held at Maharaj Gambhir Singh's memorial at Langthabal, marking two years since the Manipur crisis began.
The commemorative programme was organised by Athouba Singgi Liklam Thiba Lup Manipur, Maharaja Narasingh Memorial Committee and Chahi 7 Khuntakpa Maharaja Gambhir Singh Amasung Athoubasing Ningsing Lup.
During the observance, the gathering offered floral tributes to the busts of Maharaj Gambhir Singh, Narasingh, Maharaj Herachandra and others who laid down their lives for Manipur during the crisis.
Speaking at the event, Meghen called for unity among Manipur's people to counter the violent campaign by armed groups from Myanmar.
Noting that many Manipur civilians lost their lives during the Chahi Taret Khuntakpa, following the Burmese invasion, he added that the indigenous people of Manipur may disappear if there is no unity.
Veteran politician Okram Joy attributed the Manipur crisis to a possible conspiracy by the Central Government.
He urged all the indigenous people to unite and collectively tackle the crisis.
Athouba Liklam Thiba Lup Manipur president Nando Tekcham, Maharaja Narasingh Memorial Committee president RK Vedajit and former JNIMS Director Dr Laishram Deben also attended the programme.
