Imphal, May 22 2024:
Clarifying about a meeting held at Guwahati recently, All Manipur Christian Organisation (AMCO) said it was a continuous activity of the organisation for peace and normalcy in Manipur.
The meeting was organized at Guwahati in order to meet and pray together with some of the AMCO elders/advisors within and outside the State of Manipur, it said in a statement issued by its president, Rev Simon Raomai.
The intention was to discuss the humanitarian issue and assistance and as such "some friends and like minded people from Meitei, Kuki Zo and Tamil community" were invited to take stock of their first hand experiences concerning the internally displaced people, it said.
No one was invited to represent their own community or organization.
"It was a continuous activity where we integrated humanitarian assistance agenda...," it said.
The meeting discussed means to reduce violence, protect civilians, and make health and educational institutions accessible, especially to women and children respectively.
Discussions were also held on the economy, it added.
AMCO further informed that no Pastors from Zo Kukis and Meiteis were invited.
The meeting cannot be termed as a peace talk.
It was not a peace meeting between Kuki Zo and Meitei.
It was a mere discussion on how and what to do being a Church organization towards the prevailing situation and pray together for peace and normalcy in the State of Manipur at the earliest as all the sections of the society are impacted socially, physically, economically and mentally, said AMCO.
