30th Manipuri Language Day observed

Imphal, August 20 2021: To commemorate the inclusion of Manipuri language in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution, the 30th Manipuri Language Day was observed at the hall of State Council of Education Research and Training (SCERT) at Lamphelpat today organised by Directorate of Language Planning and Implementation Manipur.

Commissioner of Education, M Harekrishna, Director of Language Planning and Implementation, Th Chitra, Assistant Professor of Manipuri Dept, Manipur University Dr N Sanatomba, social worker L Sharatchandra and president of MEELAL, Y Biren attended the programme among others.

Speaking on the occasion, Th Chitra said the mothers have a big role in teaching their children their mother tongue and should ensure that the child learns the mother tongue first.

One should be well versed with the mother tongue and should never consider that a child speaking a foreign language as an advantage, she added.

30th Manipuri Language Day observed

Dr N Sanatomba stated that learning the basic knowledge in one's mother tongue will form a strong foundation therefore he earnestly appealed to all parents to prioritize the habit of speaking and writing of mother tongue to their children.

Patriotic Writers Forum (PAWF) Manipur also observed the 30th Manipuri Language Day at the residence of Sagolshem Bidhu in Awang Leikinthabi Santipur.

A press release by PAWF Manipur informed that during the observation, Nandeibam Pramoda was conferred with the R Kathing Tangkhul Literary Award-2021 for her patriotic short story titled 'Sana Ahingba Machu' today.

Educationist & Cultural Activist, Dr S Manaoton Singh, president of PAWF Manipur, Naoroibam Khamba Luwang, life member of PAWF Guwahati, KC Mangang and renowned lyricist Waikhom Bihari graced the occasion as the presidium members, added the press release Addressing the gathering, secretary of PAWF Manipur, Rakesh Naorem spoke about the history and significance of the Manipuri Language Day and earnestly appealed to all to strive for the upliftment of Manipuri language.

Stating that one is solely responsible for the development of its mother tongue, he urged all to give more preference to Manipuri language so that the language thrives and will be able to carve a niche globally retaining its unique identity, said the press release of PAWF Manipur.
