JAC decides not to claim body of murdered man
Source: The Sangai Express

Imphal, June 17 2025: The body of Chesam Abdul Kadir alias Chesam Achouba will not be claimed until all the culprits involved in the cold blooded murder are arrested, the Joint Action Committee (JAC), formed in connection with the missing mystery turned murder case has said.

This after the body of the missing differently abled man was recovered from the bank of Nambul river near Samurou Makha Leikai today.

Chesam Abdul Kadir had gone missing from Yumnam Huidrom Makha Leikai on June 10 .

He hailed from Paobitek Mayai Leikai.

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) Against the Missing of Chesam Abdul Kadir alias Achouba, in a statement, said it held a public meeting today and took several resolutions for justice to be delivered for the victim.

The people of Paobitek and civil society organisations, in the meeting, strongly condemned the cold blooded murder of Chesam Abdul Kadir, it said.

The main accused, who has been identified as Khaba and all other persons involved in the case, must be booked under stringent law and arrested within 24 hours.

The JAC and the family will not claim the body until all the persons involved are arrested, it said.

Further, AT 27-Unit QRT Branch must be closed permanently, it added.

The meeting also resolved for people across Manipur to stage democratic protests condemning the cold-blooded murder.

The protest demonstration will continue until all the persons involved are given harshest punishment, said the JAC.

Meanwhile, in a separate statement, the United Meitei-Pangal Committee (UMPC) has demanded that the assault and murder case be fast-tracked through a Special Court for speedy trial and justice.

To restore public trust, there must be transparency in the judicial proceedings and public disclosure of findings of the investigation, it added.

Further, there must be a complete ban and legal scrutiny on the activities of armed vigilante groups and individuals operating under various labels.

And, the State Government must immediately provide ex-gratia and rehabilitation support to the family of the deceased, UMPC said.

It added that the authorities must ensure enhanced community policing and protective measures for mentally challenged, differently abled and marginalised individuals in the State.

The Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS), Delhi Association of Manipur Muslim Students, Social Welfare Club Top Siphai, All Samurou United Clubs' Organisation, United Council Sora and many other organisations too have condemned the murder in the strongest terms.

FOCS said it supports public decisions and all movements for delivering speedy justice to the victim's family.

All culprits involved must be given stringent punishments, and the Government must provide relief and compensation to the family of the victim, FOCS, said sharing the grief and pain of the bereaved family.

Every precaution must be taken by all sections of the society to not give the incident a communal tinge and disrupt peaceful coexistence, FOCS stressed.

The Delhi Association of Manipur Muslim Students demanded that the case be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The All Samurou United Clubs' Organisation (ASUCO) said it condemns the heinous crime in the strongest terms.

The police must arrest all the culprits involved in the case and award stringent punishment.

Chesam Abdul Kadir went missing at Yumnam Huidrom.

However, the recovery of his body from Samurou has put the community in the wrong light and defamed it, ASUCO said.

The incident has the potential to disrupt peaceful coexistence of the different communities.

Every section of the society and individuals on social platforms and on social media must refrain from making statements that may give the incident a communal tone.

ASUCO supports the JAC in its every decision and is sharing the grief and pain of the bereaved family members, it added.

While condemning the incident in the strongest terms, Wangoi AC MLA Khuraijam Loken has also urged the public not to give the case a communal tinge.

The culprits who are guilty will get punished harshly according to the law.

The public must not get carried away by their sentiments and act rashly.

All sections of the society must refrain from making communal and provoking statements, he said.
