Imphal, October 11 2010:
Although the water level of the rivers flowing through the valley area of Manipur has receded, flood water has steadily inundated the outlying areas of Imphal.
Considering the difficulties being faced by the people, the sluice gate of Ithai Barrage has been lifted.
According to information received from the Flood Control Room of IFC, though the water level of the river has receded, flood water has started logging outlying low areas of Imphal resulting in flooding residential areas and agricultural land.
Breaching of Kongba river embankment over a distance of around 100 feet near Kongba Irong Asem has been almost plugged with the help of the police personnel who are undergoing training at Pangei and efforts are on at a war footing for plugging the breach near Okram, Ningombam and Keibung along Thoubal river.

On the other hand, IFC Minister N Biren has informed that with the water level of Loktak lake rising from the draining of the swelling rivers, the Department has lifted the sluice of Ithai barrage to void flooding of the surrounding area.
