In a shocking incident, but which is not the first of its kind in the country, three Constables of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were gunned down by one of their colleagues before the assailant was eliminated by other personnel.
The incident occurred inside the Directorate office complex of CAF&PD at Sangaiprou under Lamphel police station in Imphal West district this morning at about 6.30 .
Personnel of 143 Bn, G-Coy, CRPF have been guarding the directorate office.
One Fobin Mohan (27) of Anjukunnu of Wianad district, Kerala, suddenly opened fire from his service weapon (AK rifle) and killed three of his colleagues this morning, said a police source.

It is reported that Constable Fobin was in an inebriated condition when he shot the other three Constables.
After killing the three colleagues, Fobin hid himself within the office complex.
Together with a Quick Response Team from CRPF Group Centre Langjing, the other CRPF made an intensive search for Fobin resulting in a brief encounter in which the rogue CRPF personnel was eliminated.
The three deceased jawans have been identified as Pradeep RV Nayar (28) of Vettinadu, Thiruvananthapuram district, Kerala, P Eswara Rao (25) of Alikan village, Andhra Pradesh and Shine Rajan (29) from Pathananthitha, Kerala.
They bore multiple bullet injuries and were declared brought dead at RIMS.
Fobin first gunned down Pradeep and Eswara before shooting Rajan.
Fobin bore fatal bullet marks on the chest.
It is being speculated that Fobin might have acted in such wild manner over a misunderstanding with his post commander regarding a leave petition.
However, CRPF authorities maintained that Fobin did not come out for today's morning parade.
He opened fire at colleagues when they went to enquire about his absence.
Post mortem examinations of corpses of all the four deceased CRPF men have been conducted at RIMS today.
They will be dispatched to their native places tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Lamphel Police have launched an investigation into the incident after registering a case.
On the other hand, the CRPF authority has set up a court of enquiry while three personnel have been kept under suspension.
The CRPF enquiry panel would be led by 86 Batallion Bn Commandant Sanjeev Kumar.
In the aftermath of today's carnage, one Post Commander, one Section Commander and a sentry of 143 Bn CRPF have been suspended, conveyed a CRPF official.
