Imphal, October 11 2010:
A father and his son sustained injuries when some people attacked them with knives over a scuffle in connection with repairing of a river embankment.
The incident took place at around 6.30 pm yesterday at Khurai Konsam Leikai under Porompat Police Station of Imphal East district.
According to report, one Wahengbam Rajen (47) of Khurai Konsam Leikai came along with 10 other persons armed with knives and other sharp weapons and assaulted Chanambam Bheigo (55), who resides along the embankment of Imphal river in the same locality.
15-year old Chaoba, son of Bheigo came out to stop the fight but he also sustained injuries in the scuffle.
Bheigo has been admitted to JNIMS where his condition is said to be critical.
According to information culled from the site of the incident, on October 9, people of the locality were at work to strengthen the embankment to prevent breaching of Imphal river when Rajen and Bheigo had a heated argument.
Rajen had asked Bheigo to remove the bamboo mat erected around his house as fencing but Bheigo refused.
Porompat police have registered a case and investigation started into the incident.
