The first ever 'Town Churches Youth Gospel Soccer' kicked off at Tamenglong Mini Stadium with Rev.Dr.Adui Zeme, General Secretary of Zeliangrong Baptist Church Council, North East India as chief guest of the ceremony organised under the theme, 'The Spirit Comes back'.
The soccer aims to spread evangelism and to glorify God.
From the 25 churches in the district HQs as many as 33 teams will participate in the first ever Gospel Soccer in Tamenglong.
Soccer should develop friendships, peace and love and set an exemplary discipline for all while competing for prizes, said Rev.Dr.Adui Zeme while speaking as chief guest.
The torch bearer along with officials and guests started from Haipou Jaduannang Park trekking one kilometre to the Mini Stadium.
On reaching the ground Rev.Guingopou Gonmei, President Town Churches Union lit the torch.
Dignitaries, religious heads and social leaders attend the inaugural ceremony.
As the chief guest unfurled the Gospel Soccer flag, youths sang on anthem while two talented youths displayed their skills in football.
The champion will get a sum of Rs ten thousands, runner up will get five thousand, best scorer and best player will get a sum of Rs one thousand each.
In the inauguration function SP Athui, President of District Sport Association Tamenglong urged the players to develop friendship, and said football is a part of education.
He also urged the playersto maintain discipline.
The opening match was played between Town Baptist Church, TBC (A) and United Baptist Church, UBC (Liangmai) A team in which TBC (A) team scored 6 goals beating UBC (A) team.
