Imphal, October 11 2010:
Four CRPF personnel were killed in an indiscriminate firing at the office of the Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution at Sangaiporou where they were on guard today morning.
CRPF officials reported the incident as a case of fratricide and said that a CRPF constable opened indiscriminate fire at his colleagues, killing three of them before shooting himself.
But a cloud of suspicion how surfaced on the report of the CRPF authority submitted to the police as the constable who was said to have committed suicide had a bullet hit at the right underarm with another mark on the left side which could be the exit point of the bullet.
The incident took place this morning at 7.20 am at the office of the directorate of CAF &PD office which is fortified with a RCC wall on all sides.
All victims belonged to the 143th CRPF Battalion guarding the office.
The constable who was said to have committed suicide after killing three of his colleagues was identified as constable Fomi Mohon (27) son of VT Mohon of Puinyaram village of Kerala while the other victims were identified as Shivaranjan (29) son of VS Ranjan and Pradeep Narayan (28) son of Rajendran Narayan, both from Kerala and Eshwar Rao (36) son of Narasimha Rao from Andhra Pradesh.
Constable Fomi Mohon has been accused of killing his three colleagues before shooting himself to death with an AK rifle he had snatched from the armoury of the post.
Fomi Mohon killed his three colleagues and committed suicide, the CRPF's report to the police said.
The report, alleges that Fomi Mohon was to report for duty as sentry last night at 11 pm.
But as he was totally drunk, he could not report for duty.
Another personnel replaced him.
He also failed to turn up at the routine fall-in at 6 am in the morning.
As the post commander was on leave, a sub-inspector who was in charge prepared a report on him to be submitted to the higher authority of the battalion with a request that he be recalled to the battalion headquarters.
A bitter argument erupted between Fomi Mohon and his higher ranked personnel over submission of the report.
After the argument, Fomi went back to his barrack only to come back with a AK rifle issued to one of his colleagues in the same barrack.
The report further stated that he started firing indiscriminately hitting three of his colleagues, two nearby him and another constable who was in the bathroom.
He also fired about 10 rounds at the head constable who was running away as he started firing indiscriminately.
The CRPF report added he shot himself dead with the same rifle.
Reports culled out from various sources however indicate that Fomi, who killed three of his colleagues, died when other personnel fired at him.
This could not immediately be confirmed as there was no access to other witnesses present in the incident.
The slain personnel had multiple bullet injury marks.
Fomi also had a bullet injury mark in the right underarm which apparently pierced through the other side.
All the dead bodies have been sent to RIMS morgue for official procedure.
After completion of the procedures, their mortal remains will be dispatched to their respective families tomorrow, sources added.
Top officials of the CRPF including the IG and a DIG at Langjing group centre immediately rushed to the post where state police led by an additional DGP with SDPO of Imphal west police commando unit, Krishnatombi, Lamphel SDPO Modhunimai were conducting an investigation into the incident.
Police estimate that Fomi Mohon probably went out of control and killed three of his colleaques later shooting himself dead with his service rifle.
Locals resident nearby heard firing of many rounds first at 7.20 am and then again half and hour later.
But they were not aware of what was happening inside the FCS office since it was fenced with a high RCC wall on all sides.
