Imphal, July 05 2021:
The All Manipur United Clubs Organisation (AMUCO) which has been collaborating with various local organisations across the State to reach out to ten thousand households hit worst by Covid pandemic with edibles, has been able to reach out to 5050 households so far.
AMUCO in association with the All Manipur Women's Voluntary Organisation (AMAWOVA) today distributed edibles to 164 households in 3 villages under Thoubal district to cross the halfway mark, said AMUCO in a press release.
The team of two organisations led by AMUCO president, Pheiroijam Nando Luwang and AMAWOVA president, Yumkhaibam Kunjarani distributed potato (3 kg), onion (1kg), dal (1/2 kg) and one packet salt to 64 households in Salungpham, 65 in Lameithet and 35 in Thoubal Athokpam, it said.
The organisation is also looking forward to assisting more impoverished households and those worst affected by Covid and restrictions induced by it, AMUCO said.
The campaign is moving a little slow in identifying households needing assistance, it said expressing optimism that the body can achieve its target with help of local organisations sooner.
AMUCO also stressed on the importance of assisting one another during this crucial phase and appealed to all to shun politicising relief works.
The apex body also appealed to all concerned to avoid discrepancies in rice distribution under NFSA and PMGKAY and other relief materials provided by the Central Government.
AMUCO will not remain idle if distributing agents continue to indulge in diverting relief rice meant for the people or provide less rice against the prescribed share, it said while appealing to the agent not to forget that the pandemic has killed many, forced many out of work and pushed back many economically.
If the evil practices continue unabated, public outrage is imminent, it said.
"It is high time we all concentrate on saving lives, sharing things and alleviating grievances in the community," said AMUCO while adding that there can be no other time better than this in carrying out relief activities and serving mankind.
AMUCO further appealed to all social workers and politicians gearing up to contest elections to avoid sectarian approach while carrying out relief activities while reminding that they will be surely rewarded for the good work they have undertaken.
It also went on to appeal to political leaders to actively engage in constructive work during pandemic time rather than hindering it.
