Kangpokpi, February 28 2025:
Even as the Government of India has put in renewed efforts to restore normalcy in Manipur, a Kuki group has refused to surrender their arms stating that their demand for a Separate Administration is non-negotiable.
The Village Volunteers Coordinating Committee, a Kuki-Zo group, set four 'non-negotiable' conditions before any disarmament takes place.
The Committee also made an 'urgent' appeal to the Government of India to take immediate steps to restore peace and security for the Kuki-Zo community.
While acknowledging the Governor's appeal to surrender illegal arms, the Kuki-Zo village volunteers outlined four 'non-negotiable' conditions that must be met before any disarmament can take place.
.1Separate Administration for Kuki-Zo Areas: The Committee called for the creation of a Union Territory with legislative powers.
.2Immediate withdrawal of State police from Kuki areas in Manipur : Alleging harassment and intimidation, they demanded the removal of State police, with security entrusted to local forces under Central coordination.
.3Surrender of looted arms by Meitei groups: The group asserted that peace is impossible unless armed groups looted from State armories are returned.
.4Legal protection for village volunteers : The Committee demanded immunity for village volunteers from punitive legal actions.
