Finally the long cherished dream of the Thangal people of Mayangkhang and surrounding villages of Senapati district is nearing realisation with the laying of foundation stones for an eco-tourism park and a community/conference hall were laid today at the General Thangal memorial complex at Mayangkhang.
The foundation stones were laid under the joint aegis of NIUCAMO, ICHAM and the Thangal Union.

The foundation stone of the community hall which would be constructed by the Manipur Development Society at the cost of Rs 2.5 crores under Special Plan Assistance was laid by ICHAM president N Rajendra.
The foundation laying function was also attended by ICHAM advisor and former editor of ISTV K Madhumangol, columnist of this paper (Manipuri edition) Haobam Sanajaoba, Thangal Union president Khangba and the president of NIUCAMO.
Speaking at the occasion, ICHAM president N Rajendra while highlighting the close relationship between the Meiteis and Thangals, wished that the foundation stone laid today may herald unity among the people of the valley and the hills.
He further said that construction of the community hall should be completed before August 13 (Patriots' Day) this year.
Eldest grandson of Charai Thangal Abung Phazeinamei said that he could not find any photograph of his grandfather.
Expressing his wish to have a look at his grandfather's photograph, appealed to bring out the photograph of his grandfather if any individual or Dept possesses it.
Charai Thangal was hung to death after the Anglo-Manipuri war of 1891 .
Ningthoupham village chairman BK Chumu appealed to the gathering to install statues of Charai Thangal and Tikendrajit at the eco-tourism park where a statue of General Thangal has already been installed.
The gathering was also addressed by ICHAM advisor and former editor of ISTV K Madhumangol.
