Congress workers and sympathisers should try to bridge the gap and solve the issues existing between the party and party leaders who are at the helm of the Government and never towards widening the gap between the party and the Government, MPCC president Gaikhangam has stated.
Addressing a one-day block level Congress workers' conference organised by Nungba Block Congress Committee at Longmai (Noney) today, Gaikhangam, who is also the MLA of Nungba Assembly Constituency, said that in view of the prevailing political situation in Manipur, all party workers and sympathisers should try to work towards bridging any possible gap between the party and the Congress Govt and not otherwise.
While appreciating the Ibobi-led Government for taking up various developmental programmes along with bringing about emotional integration among the different communities living in Manipur, Gaikhangam said that whether the party workers are truly committed to the party or not will be known from the results of the upcoming Autonomous District Council and Lok Sabha election.
Contending that the kind of social commitment that Congress party has is not to be seen in other political parties, Gaikhangam asserted that no other parties would be able to take up the welfare programmes being taken up by the Congress.
So strengthening Congress party is strengthening the State and the country, he said.
Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly Dr S Budhichandra who also spoke at the occasion, asked the party workers to introspect on what contribution they have made for the party in commensurate to the feeling of pride they have of being a part of the Congress party.
Party workers are the commanders and it is essential to think over in which direction they want to lead the party, he said, adding that strengthening of the Congress party can only ensure development in both the hills and the valley.
MLA Govindas Konthoujam while dwelling on the ideologies of Congress party and the developmental works being taken up by the Congress led coalition Government in the State, called upon the party workers to work for the success of all the Congress candidates in the upcoming District Council election.
Vice president of MPCC T Mangibabu, AK Mirabai, general secretary administration Bidyapati Senjam, in-charge of Tamenglong district Dr Keishing, Youth Congress president Tilotama and former Minister Radhakishore were also among those who spoke at the conference.
The conference also adopted resolutions to the effect of appreciating AICC president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh for the development programmes taken up in the North Eastern States as well as by the State Government and ensuring the success of the Congress party in the Lok Sabha election.
