A solemn wreath laying ceremony was conducted at Veng village in Churachandpur district to honour the supreme sacrifice of Subedar Sarwan Kumar, Sena Medal (posthumous).
The brave-heart laid down his life while valiantly fighting against insurgents on March 10, 2009 at Haijang village, Kangpokpi.
Senior officials from Assam Rifles paid tribute and interacted with 'Veer Nari' Sheela Devi, wife of late Subedar Sarwan Kumar, to express the Battalion's gratitude and unwavering support.
A poignant moment during the ceremony was when rifleman Prince Kumar Rana, son of the brave-heart and a proud member of the same unit since July 2017, laid a wreath in honour of his father's courage and sacrifice.
His presence symbolised the continuation of his family's legacy of service-to the nation, said a release of PRO IGAR(S) .
