Imphal, March 10 2025:
Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) has strongly opposed the government's "free movement" initiative following recent protests that led to the death of one Lalgouthang Singsit and injuries suffered by scores of women.
KIM cautioned that allowing the Meetei to enter Kuki-Zo areas would further escalate the ongoing conflict in the region and disrupt the fragile peace currently in place.
In a statement, Kuki Inpi contended that the policy cannot be accepted until a comprehensive political solution is reached, one that prioritises justice for the affected community.
It further called on ths central government to prioritise justice for the affected community by addressing the root causes of the conflict.
The Kuki Inpi also extended condolences to the family of Lalgouthan, who it hailed as a martyr for sacrificing his life in defence of his people.
KIM also expressed gratitude to the Kuki-Zo community, as well as women and student organisations, for their unwavering support, while also urging the community to remain steadfast and united until a satisfactory political solution is achieved, resisting any actions deemed harmful to their rights.
