Imphal, August 21 2025:
Expressing concerns over frequent evictions and confiscation of their goods, which they claimed were disrupting their livelihoods, a meeting of street vendors has resolved to appeal for an end to the repeated drives against them by the police and Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC).
The meeting was organised by Allu Galli Street Vendors' Union (AGSVU) and Roadside Vendors' Welfare Association (RSVWA) at Rupmahal Theatre, here, today.
The meeting condemned the alleged repeated drives against street vendors, confiscation and scattering of their goods, failure to return seized items, wastage of vendors' time at offices and overall harassment.
Speaking at the event, RSVWA president Kshetri Tama Devi said that the authorities' actions against Street vendors, who depend on Khwairamband Keithel for their livelihood, are unacceptable.
She urged the authorities not to deprive street vendors of their right to livelihood and formulate a policy that supports them.
Street vendors are being unfairly targeted, she said.
N Bilasini, a shopkeeper at Allu Galli, accused the Government of repeatedly disrupting street vendors' livelihoods instead of formulating a comprehensive and lasting policy to support them.
The meeting resolved to appeal to the authorities to cease evicting street vendors and disrupting their livelihoods.
AGSVU convenor Khwairakpam Roma also attended the programme.
