Imphal, June 17 2024:
Chief Minister N Biren Singh and his Council of Ministers must resign if they cannot safeguard the integrity of Manipur and protect its citizens, said Delhi Meetei Co-ordinating Committee (DMCC) today.
As it took a series of resolutions during a meeting held at Burari, Delhi, DMCC reiterated that the Government of India should stop siding with the Kukis and prolonging the unrest in Manipur.
It said the State and the Central Governments must take immediate and decisive action to end the conflict and restore peace and stability in the region.
It strongly condemned Chief Minister N Biren Singh for not fulfilling his promise to visit Jiribam and facilitate the return of displaced Meetei individuals to their homes.
The Chief Minister must honour his promise and take immediate steps to address this issue, said DMCC.
All displaced Meetei community members from Moreh, Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, and Jiribam must be allowed to return to their homes without further delay.
Adequate compensation and support should be provided to rebuild their lives and properties, it added.
"The capture of major transport routes in Jiribam, Kangpokpi and Tengnoupal by the Kuki community is aimed at cutting off essential supplies to the valley Meetei/Meitei community.
"Our community must take multidimensional measures to counter this blockade and ensure the uninterrupted flow of essential goods and services.
Protecting the National Highway is the sole responsibility of the Government of India," it said.
Stating that a collaborative approach is necessary to develop effective strategies for resolving the conflict and fostering lasting peace, DMCC said the Chief Minister and his Cabinet Ministers must resign from their positions if they cannot safeguard the integrity of Manipur and protect its citizens.
It further informed that it is organizing a public convention on July 7 which aims at bringing together community members, leaders, and stakeholders to reflect on and discuss pressing issues, and chart a course for future initiatives.
It is also holding a press conference at the Press Club of India in the coming days.
This event aims to shed light on the ongoing conflict in Manipur and highlight the plight of the displaced Meetei community.
A victim from Jiribam will be joining the press conference and sharing the experiences and hardships people are facing due to the conflict.
This first-hand account will provide valuable insights into the ground realities and the urgent need for Government intervention, said DMCC.
