State observes 79th Independence Day; district-centric magazines released

The 79th Independence Day of India was celebrated across the length and breadth of Manipur with zeal and patriotic fervour on August 15 .
BISHNUPUR
District Administration Bishnupur organised the 79th I-Day observation at Bishnupur Mini Secretariat Complex in the presence of DC Pooja Elangbam, IAS.
Kicking off the celebration with the unfurling of the National Flag, the DC inspected the 14 march past parade contingents accompanied by Bishnupur SP Ravikumar Kshetrimayum.
D Robinson (MPS), Deputy Superintendent of Police (Commando) Bishnupur was the Parade Commander.
In her address, the DC mentioned that Bishnupur currently has 45 relief camps with 9747 IDPs in different relief camps and pre-fab houses across the district.
She also mentioned various Governmental schemes implemented for the IDPs.
'Bishnupur Tidings' a special issue on I- Day published by the District Information Office, Bishnupur was distributed during the function.
Commendation certificate were handed over to 80 Government employees.
The 79th I-Day was also celebrated at the office of SDO/SDC Moirang.
JIRIBAM
The District Administration, Jiribam celebrated India's 79th I-Day at Jiribam Higher Secondary School ground in the presence of DC Krishna Kumar, LAS.
He hoisted the Tricolour and inspected the 12 parade contingents and took salute from the marching contingents commanded by Noor Kamal Sheikh, MPS, SDPO Jiribam.
As part of the celebration, various cultural items were showcased.
Appreciation certificates were awarded to 53 public servants.
Cash awards were also awarded to the participating cultural teams.
Special appreciation certificates were further presented to the District Information Officer, Jiribam and correspondents from different media houses.
A magazine entitled "Jiribam Today" was also launched.
KAKCHING
In Kakching the I-Day celebration was held at the District Sports Association (DSA) Ground, Kakching Turel Wangma, Kakching, where DC Rohit Anand, IAS, hoisted the National Flag with the National Anthem reverberating across the gathering.
On the occasion, Rohit Anand informed that when he assumed office, more than 5,500 people were staying in relief camps.
As of today, the number has come down to approximately 3,000, with nearly 2,000 people having returned to their original villages or homes.
The DC further stated that over 364 houses have been sanctioned and more than 60 families have moved into their newly constructed houses.
Presently, 34 relief camps remain operational in Kakching and plans are being formulated to facilitate the return of remaining camp residents.
The first ever special issue of "Kakching Today" published by the Office of DIO, Kakching was also released.
The DC reviewed the parade and took salute from 28 march-past contingents commanded by Ng Suresh Anthony, MPS, SDPO Sugnu.
Later, appreciation certificates were distributed to employees of the district as recognition for their performance.
KAMJONG
The Kamjong administration commemorated the 79th Independence Day at Kamjong Higher Secondary School in the presence of ADM Kamjong HL Jain, MSC; Additional SP KH Herojit Singh, AC to DC Syed Amjad Ali, 8AR Adjutant Sashi Kumar, DLOs, CSOs, Headman, Chiefs and religious heads.
A steadfast and synchronised parade from 29 march past contingents marked the event.
It also featured cultural programs showcasing the Tangkhul cultural dance and folk song performed by the Social Welfare ICDS staff.
Special edition of 'Kamjong Today' magazine was also released by the chief guest, ADM HL Jain.
KANGPOKPI
The 79th I-Day 2025 was celebrated at Brigadier M Thomas Ground.
Chief guest DC Mahesh Chaudhari (IAS) took salute from 24 marching contingents commanded by L Lhunminlal Khongsai MPS, SDPO Kangpokpi.
At the event, appreciation certificates were handed out to Government employees.
Yesterday's event was also attended by SP Kangpokpi Manoj Prabhakar, IPS; N Shokngam Baite, ADM,MCS; James Doujapao MCS SH-ADC, SDOs, DLOs and citizens of Kangpokpi among others.
NONEY
At Noney, the I-Day celebration was conducted at Longmai III Public Ground in the presence of DC Dr Sharath Chandra Arroju, LAS; Noney SP Namsadai Peter Kamei, MPS and other dignitaries.
In the march past competition in the male category, Tazei Public Higher Secondary School, Tent Maker's Academy and St Joseph School Khumji received the 1 st, 2nd & 3rd prize respectively.
In the female category, Tent Maker's Academy, Berean Baptist Academy and Sharon English School bagged the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize respectively.
On the occasion, a magazine called "Noney Scroll" exclusively for Noney district was distributed to the dignitaries and public.
PHERZAWL
At Pherzawl District, Deputy Commissioner Mannuamching hoisted the National Flag and took the salute from parade contingents led by SDPO Thanlon N Thangzamuan.
The celebration honoured 52 contributors to the district's welfare.
The event drew the presence of senior officials, including SP T Lalboi Haokip, ADC/ADM Joel G Haokip, Additional SP Lunzamung Tungnung and several DLOs, along with village chiefs, chairmen, and local residents.
SENAPATI
Senapati District Administration celebrated the 79th I-Day at Sanyi Dahrii Complex, Khabung Karong, Senapati.
The DC of Senapati Mamoni Doley, IAS inspected the parade contingents accompanied by Shaikh Mohd Zaib Zakir, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Senapati.
The DC Senapati took the salute from 9 parade contingents led by D Theingam Thangal, MPS, SDPO Senapati.
Among the cultural programme, 6 year old Bikila Stella presented a thrilling rendition of 'Vande Mataram'.
It was followed by cultural dance showcase and band party performance.
118 commendation certificates were handed out to Police personnels and Government officials.
A special I-Day issue of magazine 'Senapati Calling' was also distributed to the attendees.
TAMENGLONG
The 79th I-Day was celebrated at the Mini Stadium, Tamenglong HQ with chief guest Dr L Angshim Dangshawa, IAS, hoisting the National Flag and taking the Rashtriya Salute before a large gathering of DLOs, civil officials, security personnel and residents.
Parade commander W M Dikambou, DSP Tamenglong MPS, led the 43 march past contingencies.
In the march-past competition, Christian Grammar School (girls), Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (girls) and Holy Kingdom School (junior) secured the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively.
"Tamenglong Voice" magazine published by the DIPR were also distributed to the public present in the celebration.
TENGNOUPAL
District Administration, Tengnoupal joined the rest of the country in celebrating the day at Tengnoupal High School Ground.
DC Tengnoupal Saurabh Yadav, IAS reviewed the parade contingents and hoisted the National Flag with "Rastriya Salute".
As part of the celebration, certificates of appreciation were given to the selected employees of various departments.
Cultural dance and special performance were showcased by various cultural troupes and schools.
Sports materials were distributed to youth clubs, schools and relief camps.
Red Blanket were also distributed to Village Chief and Chairman of Tengnoupal district.
A publication of DIO, Tengnoupal titled "Tengnoupal Today" was distributed to the dignitaries and the public.
The event was attended by Rahul Gupta, IPS SP Tengnoupal, SDOs, DLOs, officials among others.
THOUBAL
Taking strict security precautions, the I-Day observation ceremony was carried out at District Head Quarter, Mini Secretariat Complex yesterday.
DC Hannah Kahmei (LAS) unfurled the Tricolour and took salutes from march past contingents from the Home Department, VDF band party, various schools etc.
A troupe from Chingkham Kabui Khul showcased Kabui dance on the occasion.
UKHRUL
At Ukhrul, the day was celebrated at Bakshi Ground, Dungrei yesterday.
Parade Commander Chongtham Sarjan Singh, MPS, SDPO, Chingai led the 43 contingents who participated in the march past.
Chief guest Asish Das, LAS, Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul hoisted the Tricolour and took the salute of each march past contingent in the presence of SP Ningshem Vashum, IPS, DLOs of various department, CSOs and the public.
The first, second and third prize for the march past went to Oriental Naga Academy (girls), Sonyao Academy of Innovative Leaming(SAIL) and Savior High School (boys) respectively.
The function also witnessed cultural presentation from Soraphung Cultural Dance troupe, role play on RTE by Sihai Khunou Primary School, martial art display by Ukhrul District Karate -Do Association and Band Party display by the 18 Assam Rifles.
The administration handed out 96 appreciation certificates.
AMGESA
The All Manipur Gorkha Ex-Servicemen Association (AMGESA), in collaboration with the 131 Bn BSF, celebrated the 79th I- Day at Hindi Secondary High School playground, Kanglatongbi.
The celebration was graced by Hardan Charan, 2IC, 131 BN BSF; Meena Bista, chairperson, Administrative Committee, Kanglatongbi GP; Variender Singh, Assistant CO, B-Coy, 131 BSF; and Rajen Singh Bista, vice-president, AMGESA.
Besides, several State-level Gorkha civil society organisations - MGWU, AMGSU, NSPM, BGP (Manipur branch) along with intellectuals, a college principal, local clubs, students, and women also joined the celebration.
NCC cadets participated in the march past parade.
ASSAM RIFLES
In Ukhrul district, the Somsai and Shangshak battalions led dynamic I-Day celebrations across Tolloi, Poi, Tusom, and Lowngpi.
Churachandpur district witnessed a week-long wave of patriotism.
Over 5,000 civilians, students, and community members participated, with highlights including a stirring Pipe Band display at Peace Ground, Tuibong, and wreathlaying ceremonies at Khuga and Tuibong War Memorials.
In Chandel, Tengnoupal, and Moreh, Assam Rifles marked Independence Day with ceremonial flag hoisting, wreath-laying, and vibrant cultural programs.
At Union Government Higher Secondary School in Chandel, a Pipe Band display captivated 250 spectators, while at Pallel, ARPS students joined a flag march.
The 79th I-Day celebration was also held at Sehlon, Chandel.
Moreh's celebrations at the Battalion HQ and Integrated Check Post featured student march- pasts and community participation, drawing nearly 600 civilians.
Students of ARPS Kakching participated in the DC Parade with disciplined march pasts.
