Held for 'obstructing' police duty, Panchayat Chairperson gets bail

Duty Magistrate Imphal East ordered the release of Md Yunush Ahmed, Chairperson of Kairang Khumidok Gram Panchayat on bail yesterday.
Md Yunush Ahmed was arrested by the police on April 4 night for "obstruction of duty" and allegedly using abusive language and threatening women police officers.
A complaint that has been filed with the police alleged that on April 4 night, while officers of the Women Police Station were handling a case, Chairperson Md Yunush Ahmed (42) entered the station unlawfully and demanded to hand over a person involved in a FIR case.
It alleged that Md Yunush Ahmed unlawfully interfered with the case and used abusive, disrespectful words to women police officers and also threatened them.
He allegedly became violent and attempted to physically assault the Officer-in-Charge of the station, and tried to snatch arms from one the police personnel, claimed the complaint.
He was then detained and handed over to Porompat police station.
Md Yunush Ahmed was produced before the Duty Magistrate Imphal East by a team of Porompat police station along with a prayer for remanding him to judicial custody.
The defense counsel of the accused filed a remand objection application along with a prayer for releasing him on bail.
The Court after hearing the submissions of both parties, ordered the release of Md Yunush Ahmed on bail.
