Governor Dr SS Sidhu and Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh have greeted the people on the auspicious occasion of Cheiraoba (New Year) festival which is being celebrated tomorrow.
Greeting the people, Dr Sidhu said that in the cycle of life, occasion comes and goes and in this cycle, Cheiraoba has again arrived.
Cheiraoba is the harbinger of a new season and it rekindles human's spirit of life and hope, Dr Sidhu said, adding that on this occasion, 'we have to take a pledge to ensure that Manipur is made free from all the problems that are besetting it'.
We have to resolve that all the misunderstanding and tension is resolved through peaceful means and only through our collective effort, can we move forward, he said, trusting that the New Year will usher in an era of peace, progress and happiness for the trouble-torn Manipur and its people.
It is essential that the age-old tradition of peaceful co-existence among the various communities is strengthened, Dr Sidhu exhorted.
In his message to the people, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh said that Cheiraoba marks the parting of the old year and the onset of the New Year.
Let us all on this auspicious occasion resolve our differences, come together and work unitedly for a prosperous and modern Manipur, Ibobi exhorted, while hoping and praying that the festival brings peace and prosperity to all the people of the State.
Rashtriya Janata Dal, Manipur Unit and Lok Janshakti Party, Manipur State have also conveyed their Cheiraoba greetings to the people of the State.
Lok Sabha MP Dr T Meinya and president of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee Gaikhangam have also extended their Cheiraoba greetings to the people of the State.
