Customs seizes gold biscuits worth ₹2.83 crore

Imphal, March 12 2023:
A team of Customs Preventive Force, Pallel of Imphal Customs Division seized 4.98 kg of gold biscuits worth Rs 2.83 crore from a Hyundai Creta (MN03C0081) driven by one Thongkolun Mate (62) of Sibong Khudengthabi, Chandel district at Bijoypur Bus Stand, Kuraopokpi in Kakching district on March 10.In a release, Customs Division, Imphal deputy commissioner Keerthishri S in formed that based on specific intelligence, Customs Preventive Force, Pallel officers intercepted a Hyundai Creta at Bijoypur Bus Stand.
On search of the said vehicle, the team recovered 30 pieces of suspected gold biscuits weighing 4.98 kg worth Rs 2.83 crore as per market price which were concealed under the rear seat.
The items were seized and the accused apprehended under the Customs Act, 1962 for further investigation.
