Six new SBI branches inaugurated

Union minister of finance and corporate affairs Nirmala Sitharaman, virtually inaugurated six new branches of the State Bank of India (SBI) in the north-eastern states of Manipur, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh.
The ceremony held Tuesday at Namsai, Arunachal Pradesh, was attended by SBI chairman Challa S Shetty and chief general manager (Northeast Circle) S Radhakrishnan.
The new branches include two each in Manipur at Yaingangpokpi and Ukhrul town, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh.
The expansion is seen as a significant step towards improving banking accessibility in the region, enabling more communities to benefit from financial services.
The virtual inauguration, according to a press release issued by SBI Regional Business Office, Imphal, marked another milestone in SBI's mission to extend financial services to the farthest corners of the country.
In her address, Sitharaman expressed satisfaction with SBI's efforts to expand its footprint in the northeast.
She highlighted the role these branches will play in advancing financial inclusion and economic development, particularly in remote areas, and stressed the importance of accessible banking for promoting local economies and providing support to rural and semi-urban communities.
