Imphal, March 12 2023: Manipuri writer Dr Koijam Shantibala was conferred Sahitya Akademi Award 2022 for Manipuri language.

Union minister of culture Arjum Ram Meghwal presented the award to 24 writers at the inaugural function of the Festival of Literature 2023 organised by Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi at Kamani auditorium of Ravindra Bhavan, New Delhi on Saturday.

Dr K Shantibala was selected for the prestigious literature award for her poetry book 'Leironnung' .

Bom at Khurai, Imphal East, Dr K Shantibala is serving as an assistant professor at Manipur University, Manipuri department.

She has published seven books so far and has Dr Khoirom Tomchou Memorial Gold Medal 2006, Moirangthem Ningthou Memorial Award 2011 and Bal Sahitya Purashkar 2011 in her coffer.

Sahitya Akademi New Delhi's Manipuri Langauge Advisory Board convenor Nongmaithem Kirankumar and several writers from the state are participating in the 39th edition of the Festival of Literature, which will continue till March 16 .
