Seminar on 'future of printing' held

A one-day seminar on "Romancing Print 2025; Future of Printing in Eastern India" organised by All Manipur Printing Technologists' Association (AMPTA), in collaboration with All India Federation of Master Printers (AIFMP), New Delhi was held at Manipur Press Club on Sunday.
AIFMP vice-president (East) Sunil Khurana & past vice-president (East) S Surjit, AMPTA president Y Samarendra, trade, commerce & industries secretary Dr P Lenin, Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BSEM) secretary S Jitelal attended the discourse as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr P Lenin highlighted the issues faced by industries and enterprises in scaling up, and how the government is helping them through various schemes.
Under Capital Investment Incentive, one can get 50 per cent incentive in buying printing machineries.
However, the beneficiary must purchase the machinery first on own source.
It also provides interest subsidy on loan and registered en terprises will get their GST reimbursed.
The scheme will continue till 2026, he said and urged the printing industries in the state to avail benefits of the scheme and enhance their employment generation capabilities.
Private players are emerging in other sectors such as health and education, he observed and stressed the need for more efforts to keep the economy circulated within the state.
AMPTA president Y Samarendra highlighted pressing issues faced by printing firms in the state including the practice of outsourcing major printing contracts to firms outside the state, low printing rates among others.
He asserted that printing press in the state are well-equipped to handle large-scale assignments.
He also said that several printing press units in Nagaram area were severely affected during the floods last year.
Around eight printing press units suffered serious damage, with losses estimated at over Rs 4 crore in machinery and equipment, he said and urged the authority concerned to provide assistance to the affected firms.
Later, AMPTA advisor Dr N Saratchandra moderated the technical session which had Manipur University librarian Prof Ch Ibohal, and directorate of printing and stationery assistant director Th Binodkumar as resource persons.
