Farmers' Training Programmes organised at COA, MU

Imphal, March 21 2025:
A 1-day farmers' training programme on "Advanced Production Technology of Spices with Special Reference to Black Pepper and Aromatic Crops (Oregano and Rosemary) for Higher Production" was held today at College of Agriculture (COA), Central Agricultural University (CAU).

The training programme was organised by COA, CAU, Imphal under the sponsorship of the CSS-MIDH, Directorate of Arecanut and Spices Development, Calicut Kerala.
The programme was graced by Prof Indira Sarangthem, Dean, COA, CAU, Imphal; Prof N Brajendra Singh, Department of GPB and Prof UC Singh, Department of Horticulture as presidium members.
Prof Kh Ibohal Singh (Entomologist), Prof Ng Piloo (PHT), Dr Nabakishor Nongmaithem (Plant Pathologist) and Dr Anok Uchoi (MAPs) also attended the programme as resource persons.
Dr Ps Mariam Anal, Asstt Prof of Horticulture & in-charge of CSS-MIDH Programme delivered the welcome address, highlighting the importance and scope of spices in the State.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Indira Sarangthem emphasized the importance of spices for food, medicine and enhancing the economy of farmers in the State.
She also stressed on the need for introducing new spice crops like Black Pepper, Oregano and Rosemary in the State.
Prof N Brajendra Singh encouraged the farmers to put into practice what they have learnt in the training programme to improve the production of spice crops.
Planting material such as black pepper, oregano and rosemary were distributed to the trainees.
Farmers also visited Climate Controlled Poly House located in the college campus.
Altogether, 91 farmers from both hill and valley districts of Manipur' participated in the training programme.
Manipur University
The Department of Life Sciences (Botany), Manipur University also organised a 1-day farmers' training programme on "Cultivation and Production of Job's Tears seeds" at the Kang Shang of the varsity today.
The programme was conducted under the sponsorship of ICAR-National Institute for Plant Biotechnology, IARI Campus, Pusa, New Delhi.
It was attended by Manipur University, Vice Chancellor, Prof N Lokendra; MU, School of Social Sciences, Dean, Prof Debananda Singh Ningthoujam; Central Agricultural University (CAU), Extension Education, Director, Prof Ph Ranjit Sharma and CAU College of Food Technology, Dean, Prof Ng Iboyaima as presidium members.
As part of the event, a Job's Tears Village Seed Bank and Field Gene Bank were also opened.
