Imphal/Guwahati, December 27 2024: Cutting across party lines, political leaders across North East States mourned the demise of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.

Dr Manmohan Singh breathed his last at AIIMS in Delhi last night at the age of 92 .

"I am profoundly aggrieved to learn about the demise of Dr Manmohan Singh," said Chief Minister N Biren Singh in his condolence message.

Saying that Dr Manmohan Singh was an extraordinary statesman and a visionary leader with exceptional intelligence, the Chief Minister added that the demise of the former Prime Minister is an irreparable loss for the entire Nation.

He went on to state that Dr Manmohan was the architect of India's economic liberalisation, opening up the country to foreign investments and policies that led to its transformation to a global power house.

The void created by his demise would be extremely difficult to fill, said N Biren while stating that his thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family.

May the departed soul rest in eternal peace, he prayed.

Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly Th Satyabrata, on the other hand, said that Dr Manmohan Singh was a distinguished economist and a true statesman whose legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.

"It is with profound sorrow that we mourn the passing of Dr Manmohan Singh," the Speaker said.

Stating that the visionary leadership of Dr Manmohan Singh during the economic crisis of 1991 steered India towards a path of economic rejuvenation and self reliance, Satyabrata said that the tenure of Dr Manmohan Singh as the Prime Minister was marked by significant reforms and initiatives that have left an indelible mark on the Nation's development.

Satyabrata prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace while extending his condolence to the bereaved family.

President of BJP, Manipur unit A Sharda Devi too extended her condolences.

In her message, Sharda Devi said that India has lost a true gentleman, a great leader and an eminent economist in the person of Dr Manmohan Singh who can never be replaced.

CPI, Manipur State Council, in its condolence message, said that Dr Manmohan Singh was a calm and a rare politician who served the country as Prime Minister for two terms from 2004 to 2014 .

Chief Ministers of other North Eastern States also extended their deep condolences over the death of the former Prime Minister.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a post on X said: "I have had the privilege of knowing Dr Manmohan Singh ji since 1991, when he was first elected to the Rajya Sabha from Assam, a State he represented for 28 years" .

He said "Dr Sahab embodied humility and never surrendered to the trappings of power" .

"In all my interactions with him, his simplicity and decency combined with his intellectual prowess always stood out.

During his tenure as Prime Minister, I have had the opportunity to interact with him on several occasions regarding issues pertaining to Assam, and he always gave us a patient hearing and displayed a strong conviction towards social issues," the Assam Chief Minister said.

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio also paid tribute to Dr Manmohan Singh, describing him as a "humble visionary" who played a pivotal role in India's economic advancement.

Rio praised the former Prime Minister's "calm leadership, wisdom, and humility", saying that "his legacy will always be remembered" .

Taking to his microblogging site X, Rio shared a picture of Singh and stated, "I am deeply saddened by the passing of Dr Manmohan Singh, a humble visionary who shaped India's economic growth.
