Imphal, September 21 2025:
While the RIMS authority has deeply mourned the untimely demise of Chingsubam (O) Manju (35) of Lilong Chajing at RIMS Hospital today following complications after a surgical delivery, the Teachers' and Medical Officers' Association (TAMOA), RIMS has resolved to shut down all services of RIMS (OPD, emergency, routine OT and PME) with immediate effect till the culprits involved in the violent assault on a senior doctor are booked, punished and safe working environment is ensured.
The TAMOA, in a press release, said that it condemned in the strongest terms the false allegations and violent assault on a senior and the most sincere duty abiding consultant of RIMS.
Even though all services will be shut down, diagnosis and treatment of patients already admitted in RIMS will continue, it said.
The TAMOA has resolved to lodge an FIR against the culprits and take up legal actions.
Demanding assurance of safety for the healthcare providers in the RIMS complex, issuance of formal statement of condemnation by RIMS authority, a formal clarification by the RIMS authority about the false allegations being circulated in the social media and an inquiry into the security lapses of RIMS, the TAMOA has also resolved to resume duty only when the working environment becomes safe and conducive.
Meanwhile, the RIMS authority has extended condolences to the bereaved family of Chingsubam (O) Manju.
The incident (demise of Manju) has triggered widespread outrage among relatives and locals who staged a protest demanding accountability from the hospital authorities.
During the agitation, a Professor of RIMS was assaulted and hospital property was vandalized, said a press release issued by the RIMS Media Cell.
While the sentiments of the family and the community are understood, damaging public property, manhandling medical professionals and resorting to violence are unlawful acts.
Such actions not only hamper essential healthcare services but may also invite legal consequences under the relevant laws, it said.
While strongly condemning the assault on the RIMS Professor and the vandalisation of hospital property, the RIMS authority has assured that the matter will be reviewed with utmost seriousness and necessary steps will be taken to ascertain facts and address grievances in a lawful manner.
It has also appealed to all sections of society to maintain peace, respect public institutions and extend cooperation in resolving the matter through appropriate legal and administrative channels.
