Ukhrul, April 15 2026:
The Central Working Committee of Tangkhul Naga Foothills' Organization (TNFO) and Tangkhul Aze Katamnao Long (TAKL) have condemned frequent gun attacks by Kuki militants and the continued breakdown of law and order along NH-202 between Yaingangpokpi and Litan.
TNFO and TAKL have highlighted the lack of action by security forces despite such repeated incidents which endanger civilian lives.
According to a press release issued by TNFO, two separate incidents of gun attacks near Mahadev underscore the gravity of the situation.
Yesterday around 9 am, an escorted civilian convoy travelling from Yaingangpokpi to Litan was reportedly confronted and threatened by Kuki militants despite the presence of Central and State forces.
In the evening around 6 pm, there were reports of approximately five rounds being fired at an ambulance approaching from the Litan side.
Meanwhile, the TAKL noted that Kukis fired rounds of ammunition from Zalenbung (Thawai Kuki) and Shangkai around 7.30 pm on April 13.Again on April 14, firing was reported from the same locations around 9 am and 6 pm.
The TNFO has asserted that any party initiating violence must be dealt with firmly by the security forces, including the 4 Mahar Regiment and the Border Security Force.
However, repeated reports of armed provocations from certain quarters have not seen visible or proportionate corrective action on the ground, while allegations continue to circulate against Tangkhul Naga volunteers.
This inconsistency raises serious questions regarding implementation and accountability, TNFO added.
Calling for visible, impartial and decisive action, TNFO has demanded accountability for all acts of violence.
Commenting on the effective paralysis of the critical lifeline connecting Ukhrul and Kamjong districts which has disrupted civilian movement, essential supplies and even emergency services, INFO has called for restoration of free and safe movement along NH-202.It also questioned how long the State Government plans to allow a critical highway to remain paralysed while the suffering of civilians continues unabated.
Addressing the inaction by Central Security Forces in the face of such attacks, the TAKL has questioned if the security forces are waiting for Tangkhul Naga volunteers to fire.
It expressed strong belief of retaliation from the security forces if such incidents were to occur from the Tangkhul side.
Peacekeeping must be fair, impartial, and consistent, not selective.
If the rules apply, they must apply equally to all sides.
Any sign of bias will only increase mistrust and tension among communities, it declared.
TAKL has urged the State Government to intervene and ensure fairness and accountability, so that the security forces act strictly according to their own stated rules.
