Imphal, July 14 2024:
After attacking Meitei villages as well as security forces, Chin-Kuki militants today attacked a team of the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) who were taking relief materials for internally displaced persons taking refuge in a relief camp Borobekra.
The COCOMI team was taking relief materials from Jiribam district headquarters to Borobekra with security cover provided by CRPF troops and State forces acting as ROPs.
Notably, Jiribam district headquarters and Borobekra are separated by a distance of around 35 Kms.
Following the fierce attack, the COCOMI turned back, unable to reach the relief camp.
As the security forces detailed for ROP duty came under heavy attack from Chin-Kuki militants at Mongbung at around 10.30 am, the security forces too fired back, resulting in a fierce gun battle.
Undeterred by the ambush on the ROP team, the aid team took another alternative route to reach Borobekra but again they were attacked by Chin-Kuki militants at Kashimpur.
Meanwhile, COCOMI assistant coordinator Joychandra Konthoujam has vehemently condemned the relentless attack carried out by Chin-Kuki militants against Meitei people.
Today's attack was a direct challenge to the Government, he said.
It is a matter of utter shame that a great country like India is watching silently even after its armed force personnel and State police personnel have been targeted and killed by Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists, he said.
"Jiribam is a strategic gateway of Manipur and protecting Jiribam is a bounden duty for each and every one of us", Joychandra said.
He called upon all the elected representatives to set aside all political differences and work collectively to uproot Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists from the soil of Manipur.
Joychandra also underscored the urgent need to implement NRC and identify all non-local people by adopting 1951 as the base year.
He also urged all the MLAs and Ministers to stop blaming each other to score political gains.
It's not the time to wrestle for political power.
Instead of eyeing to score political mileage, all the politicians, irrespective of whether they belong to the Opposition or ruling parties, must focus all their attention and energy on protecting Manipur, Joychandra added.
