Imphal, April 10 2025:
A hand grenade was lobbed at the residence of RIMS Director Dr Guruaribam Sunil Kumar Sharma at Brahmapur Guruaribam Leikai, Imphal East district under Porompat police station.
The hand grenade lobbed by some unidentified persons at around 6.50 am today, however, failed to go off.
Soon after getting information about the incident, a team of Porompat police station rushed to the spot.
Later, a bomb disposal squad of Manipur Police retrieved the grenade.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered at Porompat police station in connection with the incident.
On the other hand, denouncing the attack at the residence of the RIMS Director, local womenfolk staged a protest demonstration at Brahmapur Guruaribam Leikai this afternoon.
The protesters used placards which read as "We condemn hurling explosives at the residence of the RIMS Director", "Don't create fear psychosis among innocent citizens", "We condemn bomb attacks in thickly populated civilian areas" etc.
One Guruaribam Ghanapriya, a member of the Old Thumbuthong Apunba Meira Paibi said that the grenade was found while sweeping the Director's compound this morning but the grenade might have been lobbed last night.
Saying that there was a similar incident of lobbing bombs at the residence of the RIMS Director in the past, she appealed to all concerned to highlight the grievances against the RIMS Director, if there is any, to the public instead of lobbing bombs at his residence.
She further appealed to all concerned to resolve all misunderstandings or disagreements with the RIMS Director through peaceful talks.
Ghanapriya said that the RIMS Director is now living in RIMS quarters while his Guruaribam Leikai residence is occupied by his younger sister.
Had the bomb gone off, there might have been casualties to innocent people, she said before urging all concerned to do away with the culture of hurling bombs and opening fire.
