Steps taken up for second medical college : Dr Ibomcha

Directorate of Health Services Director Dr Okram Ibomcha has said that the State Government has submitted a Rs 200-crore DPR to the Centre to upgrade Churachandpur district hospital as the second medical college of the State.
Speaking to reporters during a visit to the hospital, Dr Ibomcha said that the new medical institute would have 100 seats and it is likely to commence its session from 2017 .
He further said that the State Government is developing necessary infrastructure for the hospital to acquire clearance from the authority concerned in this regard.
The Director was accompanied by top officials of the Directorate of Health Services and Medical Superintendent of the hospital during his visit.
Dr Ibomcha said that a Sick Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) would be opened at the hospital under a Central Government scheme to bring down the infant mortality rate of the State further.
As setting up of the unit would take time, Dr Ibomcha said that the Directorate is planning to open the unit at the paediatric ward of the hospital for the time being.
Saying that the incinerator of the hospital was damaged in a landslide some time back, Dr Ibomcha said that the hospital requires a bigger incinerator now though a mini incinerator is currently functioning.
Informing that a dialysis unit would be opened at the hospital soon, Dr Ibomcha said that necessary equiptments have already been acquired for the said purpose.
However, functioning of the unit could not be commenced due to lack of technicians, he said.
Dr Ibomcha further said that the Directorate would train the technicians before the unit starts functioning.
A skill lab for the existing nursing college of the hospital would be opened soon, the Director said and added that the Government had already taken up necessary steps to upgrade the college to a GNM training institute.
Saying that CT scan machine has not been functioning since the past few months, Dr Ibomcha said that he would do the needful in this regard.
Labour of the hospital would also be upgraded to a modern facility soon, he said.
