UNC temporarily suspends economic blockade

United Naga Council (UNC) has temporarily lifted the ongoing economic blockade from 4 pm, Thursday.
The council has also suspended the ban on the construction works of national and international projects including that of Trans-Asian Railways.
The UNC decision was taken after an emergency presidential council meeting held at its office with President Gaidon Kamei in the chair from 10 am on Thursday.
The meeting after reviewed the decision of the presidential council meeting on October 29, 2015 .
In a reciprocal gesture to the positive steps and measures taken up by the Government of India "to protect the land, culture, history, identity, time honored traditional institutions etc.
of the Naga people", the meeting decided to "temporarily lift/suspend" the ongoing economic blockade on all national highways and the ban imposed on construction works of national and international projects including that of the Trans-Asian Railways.
The meeting also decided that UNC will not hesitate to take up any form of agitation if the Government fails to respect and honour the assurances and commitment given to the Naga people.
The UNC meeting further decided that any threat/intimidation to the established position of the Nagas would be "collectively faced by the Naga people and will respond in a befitting manner" .
The UNC further expressed gratitude to tribal hohos, district apex organisations, frontal and regional organisations, Church leaders, social workers and the general public for making the blockade and ban meaningful.
The council said it was looking forward to continuous support and cooperation till the Nagas achieved "cherished political aspiration" .
